What is DNS filtering?
Before a device opens a site, it asks a DNS server for the site’s address. That happens for every page, image and ad. Seawall is a DNS server with a filter.
Your device asks
Your phone needs news.example and, inside the page, ads.example. It asks Seawall for both addresses.
Seawall checks the lists
Each name is checked against lists of ads, trackers, malware and scams, and against your own rules.
Only wanted sites load
news.example gets its address and opens. ads.example gets none, so the ad never loads, in the browser or in apps.
On your router, Seawall works as a network-wide ad blocker: every device on the Wi-Fi is covered, including the TV and the game console.
